As a fan of both college football and BBQ, I can attest that the Holy Grail is in Knoxville, Tennessee. Located next to Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee, sits Calhoun's On The River. Located at the confluence of the stadium, the Tennessee River, Neyland Drive, a railroad crossing and a basketball arena, Calhoun's is THE hotspot for all Volunteer games. You can sit on the deck before the football games and watch the Volunteer Navy proudly come down the river before mooring their vessels at Calhoun's dock.
However, the ambience is only half of the package as the BBQ ribs, BBQ pork, chicken Calhoun, baked beans and southern fried catfish will knock your socks off.
I flew from Iowa to see a football game and eat at Calhoun's. Tennessee won the national title that year but the team didn't quite measure up to the ambience and BBQ at Calhoun's On The River:
