A Char is Born: Oscar-Worthy Grilled Appetizers
The 91st annual Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) will air Sunday night, February 24, at 8 p.m. ET. Like Super Bowl Sunday, it’s a great excuse to throw an intimate little get-together at home. While you stream one or two of the top contenders in the “Best Picture” category (the red carpet interviews begin hours earlier), you can whip up some Oscar-worthy appetizers on your grill.
Get the party started with smoke- and fire-kissed cocktails, of course. We nominate Grilled Sangria, made with sugar-crusted citrus fruits, rum, and either prosecco or its bubbly French counterpart, Champagne. (It’s a perennial favorite at Barbecue University.) But if it’s drama you’re going for, try the Dragon’s Breath Cocktail, which is served in a brandy snifter and literally smokin’ thanks to the always entertaining Smoking Gun.
We’ve riffed on “A Star is Born” with our tongue-in-cheek “A Char is Born” eggplant dip with grilled pita. Find this recipe—and more—below.
