Thanks for the info lostarrow!

MODS: any chance we could pin this post, so if folks find deals on charcoal or wood, people can add to this thread, or if you need some, you have one place to look and see if any specials are available?

Good deal if you like Cowboy. I'm not a fan. Use Royal Oak.
Not a real deal but Chicago area Trader Joe's got their label, but it's Rancher, in about a week before St. Patrick's Day. $7.99 for 18 1/2 lb. It's the only brick I use. Ran out toward the end of January and had to buy a couple bags of Royal Oak bricks to tide me over.

Good idea! I've tagged it as a sticky and adjusted the title, so in the future please post good charcoal deals here. Thanks!

Bought a 20 lb.bag of lump charcoal last weekend at a local Hispanic oriented multi-ethnic market in Villa Park, IL. - Villa Park Fruit Market. Bag is generic looking - plain brown - only writing on the bag ...
Hardwood Lump Charcoal
Product of Mexico
+ the usual safety warning & D.O.T about being a Combustible
Haven't burned any yet but it looks like lump - good sized pieces - a few smaller on the bottom from settling in transit. Price was right - $9.99
I'll let you know after I burn some - probably this weekend.

From Sunday May 20 - Monday May 28, Walmart has Kingsford Original two 15-lb. bags for $5.48. Not my favorite, but dirt cheap!

They also have Kingsford Matchlight for $9.50 for 12.5 pounds.

On a non-charcoal related note, King's Hawaiian Bread company is now making hamburger and hotdog buns. Walmart also has these on sale for $1.98 for eight buns each. I will definitely be trying these!

Scott, where do you find it? I'd like to try some but haven't seen it in any stores here in southern Wisconsin.

I read on another forum that Lowes will be putting Stubbs charcoal on sale for father's day - Buy One Get One Free.

The Lowes near me is charging $8.49 for a 15lb bag. So, that would be 30lbs for $8.49 or 28 cents per pound. Not as good as the Kingsford sale prices last month. But still a pretty good deal.

That $8.49 must be universal, because 2 weeks ago I paid it in Iowa and my parents paid it in Illinois.

When I was buying the Stubbs I had 2 different employees try to steer me toward the Kingsford that was on sale at the time, and I had to explain to both of them that I was specifically after the Stubbs. Based on their reactions they both must think that all charcoal's the same.
