Do any of you experts use Sam's Club charcoal? The kind that says it's "60% bigger" than regular coals? I've used it before and it seems to burn fine but it was a year of so ago. I know the stuff sells for about $5 for a 20lb bag. Let me know.

I've used it and didn't see any difference in performance than other brands plus you can't beat the price.

By the way, what's your last name Mike. Mine is Rabalais.

Your last name is Rabalais TOO!! 8)

I haven't seen Sam's charcoal here. (DC/Baltimore)
They have Kingsford. Two 24# bags for $11 and change.

Propane emptys are under $20 and I can't find a GOSM
in ANY size at either Sam's, Walmart or Costco.

Sam's has the high dollar SS Grand Hall SS propane
smoker. (as big as it looks, it's small inside).

Wally has the cheap piece of crap square Brinkman
GOSM clone. Smaller, no thermo and it feels like
it's made of sheet metal painted black. :(

If I want to order one online, anyone got a decent source? (propane)

Thanks

GOSMS-Refer to current thread on the board about GOSMS and Wal-Mart site. That stainless steel one Sam's carries isn't worth the 500 some odd dollars they want for it in my mind.

I'm originally from Pointe Coupee parish (near New Roads) but I lived in Lafayette for over 10 years. I guess we're kin somewhere down the line. I'll have to check out your restaurant next time we're back in LA. We'll probably be there this summer. Is Blacks and Dupuy's still open?

Yes, Dupuy's is still opened and so is Blacks. Blacks has a new owner now and I haven't been there since he took over so I don't know about the food. My place is right around the "square" and on State St.; across from the Abby Theatre. Come by and have a cup. But remember, it's a cafe and not a barby joint. We do make a killer muffelatta and great homemade soups.
