Hang around the professional barbecue circuit long enough and you’ll see guys spraying their meats with what looks like a plant mister. What they’re doing is spraying apple cider or lemon juice on the meat to baste and sweeten it. You can buy a plastic mister at a hardware store for a couple of dollars. Use it for any water-based basting mixture, from apple cider to Worcestershire sauce. To spray a flavorful coat of extra-virgin olive oil on grilled meats, you’ll need a mister with a heavy-duty pump. The best-known brand is Misto, available in housewares and cookware shops.
