Get Creative with Meadow Creek Rubs and Sauces

Here are a few creative ways to utilize Meadow Creek’s rubs and sauces.

We all want our food to taste delicious. One key to a delectable dish is seasoning the food throughout the cooking process. In a blog I wrote earlier this year I described how to build flavor during the whole cooking process utilizing spice rubs, marinades, and barbecue sauces: “Spiced-Rubbed and Sauced Barbecue Chicken with Meadow Creek Rubs and Sauces.”

I realize that most readers of are not novices when it comes to preparing and cooking their food, but we were all amateurs once. Today, I’m going to share some creative ways to use Meadow Creek rubs and sauces.

Many amateurs or home cooks under-season their food and do not think to taste their food as they are cooking it. I prefer to keep seasoning simple when I can. I don’t want the seasonings, rub, brine, or sauce to mask the natural flavor of the food. They should complement the food, not overpower it.

My go-to seasoning is simply kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. But there are times when I want or need to incorporate more flavor. Just like most of you, I make my own rubs and sauces, but I don’t want to get out ten different spice jars to make my barbecue rub when I’m cooking dinner. So, I keep pre-made rubs and sauces on hand. Pre-made rubs and sauces are quick and easy to use and are a fantastic way to enhance the flavor of your food.

Meadow Creek Rubs and Sauces

Let me introduce you to Meadow Creeks spice rubs and sauces. Meadow Creek rubs are gluten-free and come in a resealable bag to maintain freshness and eliminate fading. Their barbecue sauces are made without high-fructose corn syrup. The sauces now come in a new plastic squeeze bottle for easy use.

Meadow Creek offers a variety of spice rubs that include Barbecue, Zesty, Spicy Barbecue, TX Brisket, and Brisket. They also offer four different sauces: Original, Apple, Spicy, and Hickory Barbecue Sauce.

To showcase one of their rubs and sauces, I made a shrimp dish that is perfect as an appetizer, main dish, or part of a surf and turf dinner.

I selected large peeled and deveined shrimp. They’re more expensive, but save time. To prepare the shrimp, I lightly oiled the shrimp and threaded them on flat metal skewers. The flat skewers keep your food from spinning when you try to move it on the grill. To season the shrimp, I selected Meadow Creek’s Zesty rub.

I heated my gas grill to high to cook the shrimp. I also placed a saucepan on the side burner to warm up Meadow Creek’s Original barbecue sauce. (I didn’t want to baste the shrimp with cold sauce.)

The shrimp cooked for one minute on each side, then I applied the Spicy barbecue sauce and cooked the shrimp for an additional minute on each side. I removed the shrimp from the grill and slid them off the skewers. Be careful as the metal skewers will be hot. Serve immediately.

Place the shrimp on a platter and you have a great appetizer. Or serve the grilled shrimp with grilled vegetables and/or rice for a healthy main dish. The shrimp can also be paired with a steak for a classic surf and turf dinner.

The Zesty rub provided a “pop” of flavor without being spicy. It was light and fresh and didn’t overpower the sweet and tender shrimp. The Original barbecue added another layer of flavor to the shrimp and complemented the natural sweetness of the shrimp. I chose the Original barbecue sauce since my wife doesn’t like spicy food. For myself, I also basted a few of the shrimp with the Spicy barbecue sauce. It delivered a kick, but the heat didn’t linger. I recommend trying both sauces.

Here are a few creative ways to utilize Meadow Creek’s rubs and sauces.

  • I like to add a spicy rim to some of the drinks I make. Try replacing the salt on your next margarita with the Zesty rub. Once I was served a bloody Mary with barbecue sauce in the mix. Try mixing in some of their Spicy barbecue sauce in your next bloody Mary.
  • Try seasoning vegetables with the company’s brisket rub before grilling. Smoke-roasting carrots seasoned with their TX brisket rub and glazed with their Hickory barbecue sauce is a nice combo. Potato salad can be spiced up by sprinkling their barbecue rub over the top.
  • The Original barbecue sauce can be used as a pizza sauce when making a barbecue chicken pizza or a pulled pork pizza. If you are making nachos with leftover rotisserie chicken or pulled pork, top them with either the Spicy or Apple barbecue sauce, then sprinkle the Barbecue or Spicy barbecue rub over the top.
  • Sprinkling the brisket rub or the TX Brisket rub over home fries and eggs will spice up your breakfast. Pork and apple are a classic pairing, so try glazing your grilled bacon with the apple barbecue sauce.
