Three-Alarm Grilled Shrimp Recipe with Spritz King Chipotle Grilling Spray

What is your secret to maximizing flavor when grilling or smoking? Is it a spice rub, a homemade sauce, the type of wood you use, or a specific grill or smoker? What about a spritz when grilling and smoking? Utilizing a flavored liquid in a spray bottle is not just a great way to keep your food from drying out; it is also a great way to boost the flavor of your food. Adding moisture to long slow cooks is standard practice, but it can be more than water or apple cider vinegar.
Let me introduce you to Spritz King. They have taken what goes in a spray bottle to a new level.

Spritz King was developed by food professionals in Portland, Oregon. They crafted this innovative product through hours of sampling, testing, and cooking, making it a must-have for both novice and expert grillers. Their spritz was created using premium ingredients without artificial flavors or fillers. Spritz King ensures a rich and true flavor by steeping dry ingredients in the liquids and immediately hot filling in high-quality glass bottles.
Spritz King developed the ideal ratio of ingredients to maximize the Maillard reaction that boosts caramelization, enhances the flavor of your food, and maintains moisture when smoking and grilling.
Their flavorful culinary basting spray is ideal for smoking, and grilling meats and vegetables, and can even be used on the food you put in your air fryer.
In addition to elevating your cooking, the Spritz King is less messy than using a basting brush, is less wasteful, and eliminates the risk of cross-contamination.
Spritz King offers two varieties of Spritz, Original (sweet and savory) and Chipotle (smoky and spicy). I decided to try the Chipotle spritz first, since I wanted to cook something with a little heat. Here is what I call three-alarm shrimp.
Three-Alarm Grilled Shrimp Recipe
The recipe began with a dozen peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp. I created a spice rub to complement the chipotle flavor in the Spritz King, combining chipotle powder, ancho chili powder, cayenne, Kosher salt, cumin, Mexican oregano, paprika, and freshly ground black pepper. After tossing the shrimp in olive oil to help the rub adhere, I coated them generously with the spice mixture for maximum flavor.
Before preparing the shrimp, I set up my charcoal grill for direct grilling by adding two wood chucks to boost the smoke flavor on the shrimp. I then scraped and oiled the grates.
I placed all the shrimp on metal skewers to make it easier to flip the shrimp while on the grill. The charcoal grill was producing a high heat so I knew the shrimp would cook fast.
I cooked the shrimp for 30 seconds and then flipped them over and sprayed them with the chipotle Spritz King. The shrimp was cooked for another thirty seconds, and I flipped and sprayed the opposite side of the shrimp with the chipotle Spritz King. I repeated the process a second time on each side. The total cooking time was fast, about 2-3 minutes.
To accompany the shrimp I prepared an avocado-lime crema. I placed two grilled avocados, 1/4-cup sour cream, the zest and juice of one lime, Kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper in a food processor and pulsed to combine.
The Results
The shrimp had a nice smoky aroma as they came off the grill. The spice rub and the Spritz King created a flavorful seared exterior while the inside of the shrimp remained succulent. The spice rub provided a spicy kick to the shrimp.
The crema provide relief from the heat of the spice rub. The grilled avocado added a subtle smoky flavor to the crema. To complement the smoky, spicy shrimp, a Mezcal margarita with the spice rub on the rim was the perfect finish.
