SONORAN HOTDOG

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT BARBECUE…

Many of you remember my cousin, David Raichlen, creator of the sensational Chipotle-Chocolate Ribs that appeared in Raichlen on Ribs. (That recipe is on page 110.) Well, on a recent visit to Tucson, Dave and his girlfriend, Sarah, introducted me to a new local specialty: the Sonoran hotdog.

Said masterpiece–and it is a masterpiece–consists of a cooked hotdog wrapped in bacon and served on a soft, sweet bun along with stewed beans, grilled green onions and jalapenos, radishes, cucumbers, mayo (yes, mayo), and three kinds of salsa. And yes, it’s every bit as good as it sounds.
And the best place to get it? Al Guero Canelo (loosely translated, “mulatto”). Tell ’em Dave sent you!
