Comfort Foods to Grill or Smoke Now
Home confinement, aka sheltering in place, isn’t how we imagined spending these first weeks of spring. But it has given us an opportunity to slow down and spend time—lots of time—with our peeps and our pets. And of course, our grills and smokers. Yes, that’s blue smoke you’ve seen wafting from our backyards via social media.
In these unsettling times when “quarantine cuisine” is on the menu, our families are craving comfort foods—especially meals that can be cooked over live fire. We’re sharing some of our favorites, from appetizers to desserts, below and on social media.
Perhaps you’re finally motivated to cook from your pantry or freezer. (Lucky you if that’s an option.) If you’ve ventured to the supermarket, corner grocery, or big box store recently, you’ve likely noticed there are shortages or reduced inventories of some items, or even limits on some products. So we urge you to shop early in the day, and above all, be flexible. Can’t find ground beef? Substitute ground pork, turkey, or chicken. Below, you’ll even find links to two recipes from Steven’s book, Man Made Meals, that can be cooked indoors in case you—heaven forbid!—run out of charcoal, gas, wood, or pellets.
We hope you and yours are healthy and safe.
