Recipe Notes

  • Equipment: Charcoal, Kettle-style grill with rotisserie attachment, Chimney starter, Rotisserie spit and motor, Wireless meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4–5 lbs), giblets removed
  • 2–3 tablespoons of your favorite barbecue rub (homemade or store-bought)
  • Spritz King Original (sweet and savory) grilling spray
  • Optional: smoke-roasted potatoes and carrots, seasoned with ranch rub and Spritz King

Recipe Steps

1: Prep the Grill:
Light a chimney starter full of charcoal. When the coals are hot, set up your grill for indirect cooking and install the rotisserie ring.

2: Prepare the Chicken
Remove the giblets from the chicken and wipe out the inside cavity. Pat the outside dry with paper towels.

3: Season the Chicken
Lightly spritz the outside of the chicken with the Original Spritz King spray. This acts as a binder for your rub. Generously apply your barbecue rub all over the chicken.

4: Skewer and Monitor
Slide the rotisserie spit through the chicken, securing it in place. Insert a wireless thermometer to track internal temperature. Place the spit on the grill, attach the motor, and start the rotation. Cover the grill.

5: Spritz During Cooking
After about 45 minutes, begin spritzing the chicken with Spritz King every 15 minutes. This helps develop color and flavor while keeping the chicken moist.

6: Maintain the Fire
Add more charcoal about an hour into the cook to maintain a consistent heat.

7: Check for Doneness
Continue cooking until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the breast. Total cook time is approximately 1.5 hours.

8: Rest and Serve
Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10–15 minutes before carving. Serve with your favorite sides. For a full meal, try smoke-roasting potatoes and carrots—spritzed with Spritz King for extra flavor.
