Lemon Tartar Sauce

Recipe Notes

  • Yield: Makes 1 1/4 cups


  • 1 cup mayonnaise, preferably Hellmann’s
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon drained brined capers
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pickles, preferably French cornichons
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Recipe Steps

1: Combine the mayonnaise, mustard, jalapeno, capers, pickles, and chives. Add the lemon zest and juice. Whisk in salt and pepper to taste: the tartar sauce should be highly seasoned. Cover and refrigerate if not using immediately.
