Smoky Bacon Burger Sliders with Grilled Onions
For the sliders:
- 1 pound of 70/30 ground beef
- Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 8 slider buns
- 8 slices smoked Gouda cheese
- 8 strips bacon
- 1 large onion, peeled and thinly sliced
- Dijon mustard, ketchup, and pickles, for serving
For the Griddled Onions:
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1. Prepare the Griddle and Fire Bowl: Set up your Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowl, using the griddle surface for cooking and the fire bowl for a campfire. Ensure you have a nice bed of hot coals for cooking.
2. Cook the Bacon: Lay the bacon strips on the griddle and cook them until they become crispy and render their fat. Remove the cooked bacon and place them on a paper towel to drain.
3. Grill the Slider Buns: In the remaining bacon fat on the griddle, grill the slider buns until they become lightly toasted. Set them aside.
4. Form and Season the Sliders: Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions and shape them into slider-sized patties. Season the sliders with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
5. Cook the Sliders: Place the seasoned sliders on the hot griddle. Let them cook for about 5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness. In the final minutes of cooking, place a slice of smoked Gouda on each slider and allow it to melt.
6. Caramelize the Onions: While the sliders are cooking, heat 1 tablespoon of oil on a corner of the griddle. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook them until they become soft and caramelized, soaking up the bacon-infused flavor.
7. Assemble the Sliders:
- To assemble each slider, place a cheesy slider patty on the bottom half of a bun.
- Top with a generous portion of caramelized onions.
- Add a strip of crispy bacon.
- Finish with your choice of condiments – some sliders with Dijon mustard and others with ketchup. Pickles are optional.
- Place the top bun on the stack to complete your delicious slider.
8. Serve and Enjoy: The smoky aroma from the griddle, the savory bacon, and the sweet caramelized onions will make these sliders absolutely irresistible. Enjoy your smoky bacon sliders as a tasty treat during your outdoor adventure, just like the text describes.
